Taking Control of TIme

Taking Control of TIme

Yesterday was a great day. I did exactly what I wanted, treated myself to a Starbucks Latte and a piece of pound cake, and moved through the day leisurely without a sense of urgency. I didn’t go to an exotic island or a fancy dinner or a show. I just had an inexpensive date with myself. I didn’t worry about being productive or making money. I just did what I wanted.

Is my house messy? Yes, but a livable kind of messy. If I were having guests over, I would clean, but I’m not having guests. Do I have projects I need to work on? Yes, but I always have projects I need to work on. It never ends. I just let go of the need to achieve something and be productive and enjoyed the day.

I recently listened to the audiobook “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. In the book, Hendricks talks about ‘time’ as a concept rather than an actuality.

He introduces the concepts of “Einstein Time” and “Newtonian Time.” “Newtonian Time” views time as finite and scarce, leading to feelings of urgency and stress. In contrast, “Einstein Time” sees time as relative and flexible.

Hendricks uses the example of how an hour with a loved one can feel like a minute, while a minute on a hot stove can feel like an hour. This illustrates that our perception of time is influenced by our experiences and mindset; this idea challenges the traditional view of time as a limited resource that we have no control over.

Hendricks suggests that we are the source of time and can create as much of it as we need. By taking full responsibility for our time and how we experience it, we can shift from feeling like time is controlling us to feeling like we are in control of time. This shift can help reduce stress and create a sense of abundance.

Time bends to our perception. It’s not the clock that rules; it’s our conscious choices that shape our days.

Create time. Choose leisure over urgency, flexibility over rigidity, and calm over chaos. As you do, watch stress melt away, replaced by a sense of freedom and possibility.

When life seems to be spinning out of control and you feel overwhelmed. Say to yourself, “I am in control of my time.” "I am a time creator."
